Plodding, Black Sabbath-esque tempos and riffage, and extreme metal screaming. It's a recipe that is becoming quite common in the early 21st century, and Ottawa, Canada's Buried Inside certainly embrace this approach, as heard throughout their 2009 offering, Spoils of Failure. Gloom and doom abound, so those looking for an upbeat album to play at their next party best look elsewhere. But if you're feeling down in the dumps and feel like staying there a big longer, Buried Inside can certainly lend a hand -- just check out any of the album's eight ditties (all of which go by roman numerals -- who needs songtitles?). As far as modern-day doom metal goes, Spoils of Failure certainly proves that Buried Inside has the genre figured out.
