The title track, "Reflecter," is an immediate attention getter -- its pounding, techno beat intro, at any rate, quickly gives way to a chiming, yet propulsive whoosh of psychedelic guitar. But then Gary Ramon's bland, mixed-down vocals emerge to break the spell (at least to some extent). The effect is a little like the late '80s shoegazing of fellow Brits Loop (who also did some time on Beggar's Banquet) or Ride, but other than strong musicianship and solid production values, Sun Dial don't really bring anything new to the table. The other tracks are perfectly listenable, if less distinguished, although "I Don't Mind" features another catchy intro.
