Broken Bracelet is the independent album by American singer-songwriter Michelle Branch, released by the independent record label Twin Dragon Records in 2000 (see 2000 in music).
The record was recorded over two weeks in April 2000, and released on June 1, 2000 prior to her record deal with Maverick Records in December 2000. The story behind Broken Bracelet is a rather strange one. When Michelle was 16, she attended a Lisa Loeb concert. Before the concert began she got talking to musician Steve Poltz, who was the supporting act. He gave Branch a bracelet made by his then girlfriend, singer songwriter Jewel Kilcher saying 'when it breaks you'll be famous.' A year later the bracelet snapped and she thought nothing of it.[citation needed] Soon after, Jeff Rabhan, manager, would sign Michelle to Maverick Records and in 2001 her album The Spirit Room was released, going on to sell 1.9 million copies in America alone.
Four of the album's eleven tracks (&If Only She Knew&, &Sweet Misery&, &I'd Rather Be in Love&, and &Goodbye to You&) were later re-recorded for inclusion on Branch's Maverick Records release The Spirit Room (2001).
