Boyd Bennett turned to Bill Haley-style rock & roll when his country recordings failed, and immediately scored a major hit in 1955 with &Seventeen,& one of the early rock hits. &My Boy Flat-Top& and a version of &Blue Suede Shoes& were Bennett's minor follow-up hits, and those three charters are included on Tennessee Rock 'n' Roll, an excellent 24-track anthology of Bennett's original King recordings from 1955-1956, including two previously unreleased tracks. The sound quality is great, and although Bennett's adherence to the Bill Haley sound makes for a bit of a monochromatic listening experience, lovers of '50s rock & roll -- and Haley in particular -- will love this collection.
