At the time of its release, Too Short claimed that Gettin' It was his retirement album. If that is indeed the case, he picked the perfect moment to drop out of the hip-hop business -- as the album shows, he's already beginning to border on self-parody. There are some good moments on the album, particularly the singles &Buy You Some& and &Gettin' It,& which feature Erick Sermon and Parliament/Funkadelic, respectively. But too much of the album consists of tired boasts and worn-out beats. Furthermore, the album is padded with filler, making it more difficult to dig out the gems buried next to the dreck.
