Carl Davis, probably due to an increase in funds, added strings to the mix on the Artistics' Brunswick debut. While the violin section embellished their biggest hit, &I'm Gonna Miss You,& and made it better, the results on other sides were less satisfying. The horns that so aptly complemented the songs on their Okeh album are missing in action. They would have been more effective on &Girl I Need You& over that song's syrupy, unnecessary strings; ditto for the falsetto led &Glad I Met You.& One of the best songs, the William Butler-written &Hope We Have,& chugs along nicely without the excess baggage. Sonny Sanders, a former member of Motown's first male vocal group, the Satintones, did a fine job with the rhythm arrangements; the strings, however, weakened this production.
