Just a shadow of the beauty Rex would later create, the band's self-titled debut has its moments but is flawed overall. Certain aspects of the band's personality were already in place -- particularly the long, repetitive songs and penchant for turning very quiet songs into very loud ones -- but the songwriting and production were lacking. Halves of songs are great, particularly the first part of &Nothing Is Most Honorable Than You,& but tend to suffer when the guitars crash in. Whereas the band's meandering would later prove fruitful, on their first album, it's mostly just pointless.
