John Coxon and Ashley Wales' debut album shows that the duo were quite respectable producers before their own musical careers as Spring Heel Jack; the breakbeats and melodies on There Are Strings are polished to a fine sheen. Though individual tracks sound okay, good ideas seem to be in short shrift on this long-winded album.
