I have no idea how this ended up in my ears, but I've been painting my hands with a black bic pen ever since. What in the fucking world would I, Joel Frieders of the realm, be fucking smoking listening to a gothic trance album?
Well, I'm fucking loving the fucking Fuck out of it actually.
Synthetic and menacing, Trust take otherwise dainty sounds and splatter them with rust, static and then spurted through the liver in a drug-influenced catharsis. Imagine Matt Dillon in Over The Edge listening to trance instead of shit rock and he'd probably have Trust in his walkman. It's as addictingly progressive as the first few times I went through the debut album from Crystal Castles, but it's inside this darkened niche that I've found a new favorite.
While TRST doesn't stray too far from the bright-made-brooding combination of sound, the European devil with the vocoder hasn't gotten old for me yet.
During my first few listens of TRST, I kept assuming I was missing something. I mean, why is this dude walking with his voice when the music is fucking massively out of breath throughout the majority of the album? I don't think he even steps outside of a few notes until he gets to the chorus on Heaven, and even then, I think it's his casual approach to these huge fucking songs that makes Trust so endearing.
If I'm dumb in this genre, which I am and am completely fine with being dumb in this genre, I keep seeing the movie Drive in my head, and realizing that TRST would've been a better soundtrack for fucking sure.
If you're into the synth heavy Type O Negative of electronic music, TRST from Trust is fucking spot on in the Fuck-a-smile category.
And Chrissy E is my favorite fucking track on the entire fucking album and I've already dragged it into my favorites from 2012.
