From anyone else this would be a brilliant release. amon tobin isn's anyone however, and i can't help feeling that i think his music has ultimately suffered the further he has strayed from frenetic, jazzy, sample-fuelled breakbeat. ISAM is deep and spacious, sometimes to a fault, with rhythm occasionally proving hard to come by. this is perhaps the most sonically textured release of amon tobin's career, but at times also one of the least captivating. check out his monthly joints series from last year, i think they surpass this and are perhaps the best music he has made since out from out where.
