Return of the Funky Man was Lord Finesse's first real record for a major label, with himself as the main producer and performer, though he got a little help on production from his crew in the form of Diamond D and Showbiz of Show & A.G. Not much has changed since Finesse's first album; the same rugged rapping flow and metaphorical supremacy are evident throughout. The first bit of the album gets a tad slow at times, but altogether this is a nice addition to the Lord Finesse library.
