RCA's Stereo Action series has been touted as the cream of the record industry's efforts to promote stereo. The idea behind Stereo Action was to score tunes specifically in order to draw attention to channel separation. In other words, "The Sound Your Eyes Can Follow" was contrived to get the listener looking back and forth at the two speakers. Along with Esquivel's Latin-Esque, the Three Suns' Movin' 'n' Groovin' is the best of the series. Charles Albertine has taken the Stereo Action mission to heart, scoring several knockout wonders along the lines of "Tequila" from Fever and Smoke. Like that album, this one also features assorted strange percussion instruments. "Danny's Inferno" and the title track earn Albertine a place on, well, the lunatic fringe of so-called easy-listening pop history. "Caravan" and "Stumbling" are other great ones, and the rest of the record is nearly as excellent.
