The song was written by Jörgen Elofsson; he would go on to win a BMI Pop Award in 2000 in the category of Song of the Year for composing "Sometimes". The song was produced by Per Magnusson & David Kreuger, and is written in B Major Spears' vocal range runs from G3 - D5, running nearly two octaves. The track is a classic example of a pop ballad about love and its symptoms, as Spears declares "sometimes I run, sometimes I hide, sometimes I'm scared of you." The song appears as #5 on Now That's What I Call Music 3. During her Onyx Hotel Tour in Miami, Britney starts to sing the chorus of "Sometimes" then claims that she never really liked the song.
