It is obvious that RCA did not know what to do with Xavier Cugat. In Spain is fine if you like the kind of syncopated cha cha cha of dance-instruction albums. And it is mildly impressive that anything fresh could be done with the classics of the bullfight ring. But these are not impressive recordings. A rocking version of &Ritual Fire Dance& and a modish &Playera& are the only sparks, apart from a sprinkling or two of electric guitar. &Spain Goes Cha Cha Cha& would have been a better title.
