"We represent a growing disaffection in modern pop. Joining late '80's brain weaklings cannot be rock's future. Opening minds through our brand of escapism and reflection is the grand challenge. We plug our guitars into celtic crosses and don frock coats of velvet green. We've emerged from the steppes by night thereby becoming The Steppes. Arriving at the castle keep in our metallic gold '63 T-bird we take our places at the round table. We join the guests and drink rum and cokes from the skulls of life's enemies! All our comrades are seated and slightly drunk... but always in good spirits... Doctor Who questions Oscar Wilde's choice of dinner attire. Brian Jones (not the man but our concept of him) arm wrestles with Michael Moorcock... whilst olde Sgt. Pepper twists his left moustache and bids us welcome. And we are welcome. We have traded our rooms at the Hotel California for seats at Irish King Brian's royal residence (for Who would not?). Our duty is clear. All Kings need their poets and harpists. Our friends in the real world love us dearly even though we are not tax free (nor duty free). Our enemies, however, resent our existence and call us snobbish, intellectual acid dandies (bless their souls - they're right, you know). That ruined castle on the back of this album was built in 1238 A.D. by a direct ancestor... That's a fact Jack!"
