专辑介绍

by Arthur Rowe

Pat Boone's 1962 Top 40 hit serves well as both album title and leadoff track in a collection which includes an especially fine mix of songs. Boone is in good form throughout, as his breezy style and deep, resonant baritone breathe fresh life into each of these numbers. The title track's whistling intro and gentle, insistent beat help give an old tune slick pop appeal, and does so without sacrificing the wistful charm of earlier versions. It also provides just the right springboard to all that follows. The memorable hooks of &My Blue Heaven& and &Paper Dolls& engage you quickly with their good-natured jauntiness. &Prisoner of Love& and &Alone& portray, respectively, love's unyielding hold and love's plaintive yearning, and provide a pleasing contrast to the album's high-spirited tone. Though there is no single track that soars above the rest, &Brazil& is, arguably, the album's most noteworthy track. This composition, most commonly done as a pure instrumental, generally fares better that way. But Boone's brisk delivery and perfect timing blend beautifully with the orchestration and take nothing away from the music's exotic allure. I'll See You In My Dreams is a good, representative Pat Boone album. Certainly not his best -- but not a bad place to start for anyone not well acquainted with Boone's catalog.
