Hybrid is the Welch duo of Mike Truman and Chris Healings, who have made a name for themselves over the past decade as progressive house and breakbeat producers. Surprisingly, considering their extensive work together over the years on film soundtracks, remix projects, and live work with such artists as singer Adam Taylor and New Order bassist Peter Hook, their contribution to the Distinctive label's Y4K series is the first mix compilation the two have ever created together. It starts off just a bit slowly with a brief snippet of arrhythmic instrumental ambience followed by Forme's lackluster &Let It All Out,& but things pick up quickly when the Hi-Fi Bugs kick in with the nicely rolling &Knife Drawer& (which features an interesting rhythmic shift about halfway through the track) and when Gus Gus contributes &David& (in a dark remix by Luke Chable). Other highlights include the Chemical Brothers' classic &Chemical Beats& and a propulsive Stereo 8 remix of Orbital's recent single &One Perfect Sunrise.& Highly recommended.
