Ready Natty Dreadie was a once in a career moment for Dillinger, getting to record over classic Studio One riddims. The Lab favorite here is the massive "Jamaican Collie(1)," complete with chalice session in the middle of the track. You gotta love all the recording imperfections during the track: sounds as if Dillinger steps away from the mic mid-verse to take a breath. Next, check the stellar "Fountain On the Mountain(2)" which finds Dillinger kicking some freestyle about living up in the hills over Real Rock (Armagideon Time). "Leave The Area(3)" is another track I'm feeling, Dillinger flowing side by side with Dean Fraser on sax over the Bangarang riddim. Speaking of horns, check the "Set Jah Children Free(4)" over Mojo Rock (aka Sagittarius Dub). Also check "Natty Ten To One(5), Dub Them Rasta(6)," and the title track(7). A few years after this album he blew up with the huge hits "CB-200" and "Cocaine in My Brain." He got out onto the international scene and ended up cutting a lot of mediocre stuff in England. Happens. Savor this one. Recommended.
