New Testament consists of lots of loud, jagged guitar that will warm the heart of anyone who likes a real attack on their instrumental music, with Gerry McGee crossing swords musically with Jimmy Page, George Harrison, and Eric Clapton on covers of &Whole Lotta Love,& &What Is Life,& and more. The originals are a mixed bag that provide a good canvas for the virtuoso playing by McGee and company, who seem to take to the expansive side of early-'70s hard rock very nicely and comfortably, and even manage to have fun with the song selection. Somehow, covering Led Zeppelin and Tom Jones (&She's a Lady&) on the same record seems inspired, in a strange, warped way.
