Born in 1912 in Margate, Kent, the legendary countertenor Alfred Deller recorded for harmonia mundi from 1967 until his death in July 1979. The discs contained in this specially-priced collection, many of them bestsellers (Music for a While, O Solitude), caught the public's imagination and influenced several generations of musicians. The great Nicolaus Harnoncourt proclaimed, ''We had never heard a male alto before, and now this!
