French popster Jacques Dutronc rose to popularity in France during the 1960s on the strength of his witty satirical songs (thanks in large part to co-writer Jacques Lanzmanns lyrics). "Et Moi Et Moi Et Moi" and "Playboys" were national hits. Dutroncs recording career was erratic (he disappeared for much of the `70s and `80s, only to return in fine form in the `90s), but all his music is marked by his sophisticated vocals, and by the impulse to meld the French chanson tradition with rock and contemporary pop formulas. GREATEST HITS offers a fine overview of Dutroncs work, and should find a place in any collection that already includes artists like Serge Gainsbourg and Fran鏾ise Hardy.
