Known as Dizzy Gillespie's protégé, trumpeter Jon Faddis has produced some memorable jazz over the years in his own right. This is unfortunately not the case with the Unidisc reissue of 1978's Good and Plenty. Most of this material is over-produced lite jazz without much leadership from Faddis, who is often lost in waves of synthesizers, new age guitars, and disco. If you want to hear what an engaging trumpeter Faddis really is, search for his date with tenor saxophonist Billy Harper on Storyville or the Dizzy-inspired Legacy on Concord.
