Trojan sent most of their catalog over to Madlib's bomb shelter (the name given to his basement studio in California) and asked him to put together a mix CD of his favorite dub reggae joints. So after some time passed and he hadn't delivered the record yet Trojan began politely harassing him. The result is this attention-span-disorder delight put together in a single afternoon. Madlib moves abruptly through 45 Trojan sides with occasional interludes hosted by a computer voice and some of his beat arrangements (which smoothly transfer back to the subject at hand). Nothing is rocked for over a minute or two and nothing picked for this continuous mix is short of excellent. Classics ranging from Lee Perry and the Upsetters' &Jingle Lion,& King Tubby's &A Better Version,& and the Skatalites' &Guns of Navorone& are here, but so are plenty of hidden favorites. Perfect for sunny afternoon lounging or bedroom headphone perusal, Blunted in the Bomb Shelter doesn't disappoint.
