Review by Heather Phares
The Superplus EP is where Quickspace's sound really jells into a force of nature. At four tracks long and 24 minutes strong, each song has plenty of room to flow and grow on the grooves the band sets down. The first song, "Superplus," is a healthy 14 minutes long. Propelled by linear guitar lines and simmering keyboards, Tom Cullinan and Wendy Harper's shared vocals teeter between half-muttered cool and twee cuteness. "Scubaplus" takes the band's lock-groove tendencies to even further extremes, with surf and sonar-like keyboards panning back and forth in heavy stereo for a sweeping, underwater effect, while "Standard 8" brings the listener back up for air with a swinging guitar riff and a sweet la-la duet between Cullinan and Harper. The EP defines Quickspace's rules of pop and experimentalism; the results are very fresh and listenable.
