This is pianist Michael Gettel's second tribute to the San Juan island chain in northern Washington, but this voyage welcomes a new passenger, Sandin Wilson on fretless bass. Fans will recognize the signature Gettel style -- fanciful octaves and arpeggios -- but with the addition of the smooth, silky and melodic basslines from Wilson, Gettel's lyrical style is supported and warmly embraced. Nature, whale, and ferry sounds give the album some local color, and Randy Sherwood offers vocalise on two tracks. Every track on this "dawn-to-moonlight" portrait of the islands is engaging. As Gettel suggests, play the album late at night. How about with some wine? Wilson's the rich merlot; Gettel's a dry white. It's a great duo. Welcome aboard, Wilson.
