Too light to be convincing hardcore, too heavy to be considered modern rock, the music on Simon Says' major-label debut, Jump Start, occupies a middle-of-the-road limbo that's not terribly pleasurable for the listener. Tracks like "Life Jacket" hint at possible future melodic talents if the group is allowed to develop, but as it stands, these teenage musicians need to spend a few more months practicing in the garage and more time developing the difficult art of good, original songwriting.
