Her approach immediately grabbed my attention; this is a very personal kind of Schumann, yet never ego-centered or out of line. Tone and technique match. Wirssaladze is one of the few real romantics around, with power, delicate rhythmic alternations, and a very strong musical profile. If these beautiful sonatas are unfamiliar to you, they are among the early romantic masterpieces and well worth knowing. Wirssaladze’s interpretations are easily as good as any around, with excellent modern sound. This lady is an important pianist.

Enregistrée en public au Conservatoire Tchaikovski de Moscou. au cours de deux récitals à sept ans d’intervalle. ce programme Schumann par Elisso Wirssaladze est une merveille. La technique parfaite de la pianiste lui ouvre toutes les audaces, toutes les libertés. Sa compréhension profonde de l’univers schumannien entraîne l’auditeur dans un voyage émotionnel intense. Il est bien là, le Schumann bipolaire, littéraire, fraternel, exalté radieux et tourmenté. Wirssaladze n’a pas besoin d’en rajouter, elle sent chaque inquiétude, devine chaque tourment et fait sienne la folie du compositeur. Subtile et tendre dans les Scènes des la foret, elle devient sauvage et passionnée dans les sonates. A part Martha Argerich on ne voit pas qui, aujourd’hui, est capable d’aller aussi loin dans l’incarnation radicale d’un tel maélström. Le piano est a l’état d’incandescence, artiste prend tous les risques. la musique est hallucinée. Voilà bien une incomparable schumannienne.
