专辑介绍

by Eugene Chadbourne

Not exactly greatest-hits packages, the Hank Snow Souvenirs and More Souvenirs sets represent the repackaging possibilities that are possible once an artist has cut more than a hundred titles for a particular record label. This guy was a rolling Snow-ball for sure by the mid-'60s in terms of accumulated masters, a literal avalanche of country music ranging from sentimental to humorous to honky tonk to all three combined, all of it recorded with fine Nashville backing bands. There seems to be no &yellow snow& amidst this material; any random selection of Snow RCA recordings of this sort will result in a country collection that could be placed under the microscope and studied by any manner of musician or artist attempting to create an authentic &roots& groove. On More Souvenirs, &Let Me Go Lover& kicks off the set with a swagger made all the more vivid by Ray Edenton's lead guitar twang and the fiddle licks of Chubby Wise. Snow forsakes the pedal steel on these recordings, going for a sound heavy on regular guitar, with odd highlights from both piano and the occasional trumpet solo. Side two starts off with two wonderful versions of haunting story-songs, &Miller's Cave& and &The Wreck of the Old '97.& &Tangled Mind& and &One More Ride& both demonstrate Snow's knack for delivering a straightforward, unpretentious country song.
