Floyd Cramer continued his slide into pure pop with Swing Along, which yielded the minor hit &Java.& The instrumental palette is much more varied than the expected slip-note piano leads; thick horns, strings, and a vocal chorus flesh out orchestral pop classics like &Stranger on the Shore& and &Canadian Sunset.& Side two, excepting &Make Love to Me& with its chugging guitar riff, is easy listening without the slightest vestige of country music influence. The infectious Billy Vaughn hit &A Swingin' Safari& is a clear highlight, and the album is split about evenly between similarly peppy tunes and drowsy adult contemporary instrumentals. Cramer was entering the realm of Roger Williams and Lenny Dee at this point in his career, and Swing Along will appeal to their audience rather than the honky tonkers.
