The 10 songs on this CD are a mixed bag, mainly because The Meters insisted on singing and simply weren't great vocalists. Their leads and harmonies on &Come Together& and &Bo Diddley,& among others, were exuberant, but didn't add much to the proceedings. On the other hand, there haven't been many groups in any style that clicked any more smoothly and soulfully. Their inspired, funky playing almost overshadows the tepid vocals.
