Pianist Jay McShann's solo performance at the 1974 Montreux Jazz Festival still sounds fresh and lively over two decades later. He performs six mostly blues-based originals (including &Hootie Blues,& &Confessin' The Blues& and &Yardbird Waltz&), adding an occasional vocal. In addition, because this concert took place shortly after the death of Duke Ellington, McShann performs respectful versions of Duke's &Satin Doll& and &I'm Beginning To See The Light.& A fine all-round effort by a classic veteran.
