Eric Dolphy's second session as a leader is one of his most intriguing. On this CD reissue, Dolphy is heard performing two songs apiece on alto, bass clarinet, and flute along with a rare appearance (&Eclipse&) on clarinet. Joined by Ron Carter on cello, bassist George Duvivier, and drummer Roy Haynes, Dolphy's playing is quite explorative and the hypnotic and somewhat spooky &Out There& finds both Dolphy's bass clarinet and Carter's cello sounding as if they are talking.
