&Wipe Out& is probably the definitive surf-rock instrumental. Comparable with such classics of the period such as Dick Dale's &Let's Go Trippin',& the Champs' & Tequila,& and Bill Dogett's &Honkey Tonk,& the track leads you right into the period and, as an added plus, defies you not to dance. The full-length album Wipe Out is almost as good. The revolutionary proto-metal guitar by Jim Fuller and pounding drums of Jim Fuller engulf every cut, especially the wild &Wiggle Woggle& and the cover of the aforementioned &Tequila.& One of the ultimate surf party platters, this album -- despite its trashy production -- has stood the test of time.
