As good as it is in places, Peepshow is the sound of a once-terrific band treading water. Some of the songs are fine, but they're too layered in self-referential mystique to actually win over listeners. The single (&Peek-a-Boo&) is one exception -- a seductive glimpse of the sleek lines and pouty truculence of old. But other songs, including two singles -- &Killing Jar& and &Last Beat of My Heart& -- fail to convince. The obituary writers started sharpening their pencils.
