Cookin' Cajun isn't strictly a duet album -- although Raven and Sonnier play together, a good portion of the disc is devoted to solo tracks from both of the artists. It doesn't really matter that Cookin' Cajun is a piece-meal effort -- the thing sounds good, no matter who is playing at whatever moment. Raven and Sonnier are two of the finest contemporary cajun/zydeco players and while this disc isn't either artist's finest moment, it's a good-natured record that is a lot of fun while it's playing. Unfortunately, it doesn't provide quite enough sparks to make it worth returning to frequently.
