Johnnie Taylor begin to express some frustration with Malaco in the late '80s, most of it due to their inability to get him a major hit. It's doubtful if Stax in its prime could have gotten hard-edged Southern soul aired on urban radio in the late '80s, but they gave it a shot. The title cut was a good uptempo tune, produced in a less Stax/Volt manner than usual, while they added some synthesized and drum machine textures to try to meet radio requirements. It didn't work, but it wasn't a sellout either.
