Other than releasing an excellent second album in II, Unknown Mortal Orchestra has kept busy this year with a couple of covers of “(Sittin’ On) the Dock of the Bay” and Lindstrøm‘s “Rà-àkõ-st”. Now the band (or rather frontman Ruban Nielson) is expanding his covers repertoire with one of Dirty Projector‘s “Swing Lo Magellan”, from the great album of the same name.
The cover is part of a new acoustic EP the project is releasing on October 29th via Jagjaguwar called Blue Record. It’ll contain three acoustic versions of songs from II as well as the “Swing Lo Magellan” cover and another song called “Puttin’ It Down”, that may be a cover of the Beck song, as its mentioned that “two songs [were] written by other artists”. The whole EP was recorded straight tape in Nielson’s basement using one guitar and one mic.
