Though hardly remembered today, the remarkable Hungarian-born pianist Lili Kraus (1905–1986) studied with Kodály and Bartók in Budapest and with Eduard Steuermann and Artur Schnabel in Vienna. She was best known as a Mozart player – one season in New York she performed all the piano concertos, the next season she presented all the sonatas and recorded them for American Columbia. Now that sonata cycle is available again as a 4-CD box set.
