Two songtitles on this CD (&Jazzosaurus Rex& and &Dinosaur Park Blues&) try to make a connection between David Murray's music and the recent movie Jurassic Park but, despite that dubious attempt at commercialism, this is actually a fairly typical Murray modern mainstream outing. Accompanied by pianist John Hicks, bassist Ray Drummond and drummer Andrew Cyrille, Murray's playing is consistently exciting whether tearing into the rhythm changes of &The Eternal Triangle,& playing ferocious doubletime lines on his &Mingus in the Poconos& or showing off his huge tone on &Chelsea Bridge.& The poet G'ar's narration on a blues &Now He's Miles Away& (a tribute to Miles Davis) is a bit trivial but only a minor flaw for this worthwhile David Murray set.
