Writing a 'debut' album is sometimes a drawn-out process but it isn't normally one that takes over 17 years. Tears Run Black formed in the panhandle of Florida in the early 2000s, sourcing members from Panama City, Blountstown, and Tallahassee. Despite a successful regional career playing with top acts in the metal and hardcore world, life had other plans for the band. With members now living in three different states (Florida, Texas, California), it took the unfortunate death of drummer Robby McDonald for this album to finally come to fruition. This started as a memorial album to Robby until tragedy struck again, just days before finalizing the production, guitarist (and Robby's older brother) Joe McDonald died. What reads like the origin story of a supervillain was the motivating factor for finishing this record.
Who Haunts the Haunted is dedicated to the life and memory of Joe & Robby McDonald and the support and love their family has shown the band and individual band members all of these many years. McDonald Family, we love you.
