Type O Negative's melodramatic goth rock style encompasses long songs built on simple riffs, theatrical shouting vocals, churchy-sounding organ and vocal-harmony passages, and the odd mechanical noise. Vocalist Pete Steele, who wrote all the songs, shows an obnoxious sense of humor, but directs it at himself and the band as much as everyone else he doesn't like. There are some very un-PC sentiments on several topics, chiefly breakups, which, although comically dramatic, are quite suitable for angry moping.
