The Swallows' forte was the romantic doo wop ballad, and in spite of several different lineups, they remained remarkably consistent throughout the 1950s in delivering them, beginning with 1951's "Dearest." This compilation collects the best of their King sides, including the group's signature tune, "Dearest," an early version of "I Only Have Eyes for You," "Please, Baby, Please," and the perhaps wise (and definitely somewhat ribald) "It Ain't the Meat." Also included are a handful of their later, more rock & roll-oriented releases for Federal Records (a King imprint), including "We Want to Rock," "Itchy, Twitchy Feeling," and the Swallows' last hit (and pretty much their last recording), "Who Knows, Do You?" from 1958. Charly has a collection on the market called Dearest that covers pretty much the same territory, but lacks any of the Federal sides.
