A must have. The four-part title track, inspired by art brut artist Adolf Wölfli, is the most elaborate composition by Mats Johansson so far. The Voyage-suite offers a rollercoaster ride between intense chromaticism and subtle melodic passages courtesy of The Zorn Trio. New guitarist Bo N. Roth gets lots of space and makes the most of it, especially on Magnificent Giant Battles.
The Voyage is probably the most varied Isildurs Bane album to date with four choral works, three piano-based pieces and a couple of tunes in the fine IB tradition.
"The Voyage is a work that goes from a piano trio to a large orchestra, and the work that the band are most happy with, I think. Ever since its was premiered in 1992, The Voyage has been successfully performed on stage. The album was planned to be a surprising production, much like a journey, with piano pieces, choir works, IB with The Zorn trio and so on." Mats Johansson
