Saxophonist Don Wise put together this 14-song compilation apparently because dancers enjoy performing to some of the songs that he had included on his first three CDs. Despite its title of Swingin' Up a Storm, the music is not particularly raging and primarily consists of jazzy, bluesy, funky, R&B-ish performances that cross various musical boundaries. All of it is danceable, and Wise's saxes are well featured along with a series of vocalists. Unfortunately, the personnel are not listed (other than the singers), there are no real liner notes, and listeners unfamiliar with Don Wise will wonder why this happy but derivative music was brought back. It is fun and basic music that works for dancers -- but do not look for any originality.
