Sierra/Hollywood's A Potpourri of Bluegrass Jam is a retitled reissue of Muleskinner's debut album, Muleskinner. The bluegrass supergroup -- featuring Clarence White, Peter Rowan, David Grisman, Richard Greene and Bill Keith -- were one of the first bluegrass bands to push at the limits of the genre, adding elements of contemporary folk, pop, rock and blues to the traditional sound. Years after its initial release, the debut remians a vital, vibrant effort, thanks to the amazing, sympathetic interplay between the musicians. There's an electric spark to this acoustic music that still shocks decades after it was recorded, and their ideas sound just as fresh. Along with Old & In the Way, Muleskinner's debut is a landmark in progressive bluegrass.
