The artistry of Jascha Heifetz as collaborator comes vividly to life again through this sensitive remastering of three of his Living Sound performances for RCA Victor. These recordings date from the late 1950s and early 60s and perhaps most notable was his pairing with the cellist Gregor Piatigorsky. Their performance of the Brahms Concerto in A Minor for Violin and Cello showcases the two artists at the height of their mature powers in music tailored to their coolly Romantic musical temperaments.
Heifetz chose his then-recent former student, Erick Friedman, to accompany him in the Bach Concerto in D Minor for Two Violins, and it will come as no surprise when one hears the mutual sympathy in their playing, making this performance, in particular, a rare gem.
