An Almost Perfect Affair proved a perfect project for composer Georges Delerue. Its tale of romance amid the Cannes Film Festival played precisely to Delerue's strengths, and he responded with one of the most rapturous and luminous scores of his distinguished career. While often overlooked in relation to his other 1979 masterpiece, the Academy Award-winning A Little Romance, An Almost Perfect Affair is certainly ripe for rediscovery. The main title theme towers among Delerue's most dizzily passionate melodies, and its joy echoes throughout the music to follow, buoyed by the composer's remarkable melodic prowess and his obvious affection for his craft.
